A Brief History Lesson in the Life of SEMAgencies.com
Like most online marketers, I got my start years ago during the .com explosion of the nineties. It was at that time that I got introduced to .html and .css coding and design standards. Not knowing much, I began experimenting through the creation of some affiliate and lead generation websites.
It wasn’t until a few years later that I saw the true potential that Internet marketing really offered anyone with a desire to succeed. It was then that I got “serious” about it and proceeded to create monstrous websites consisting of hundreds of thousands of pages for the search engines to devour. I became proficient at the art of database publishing and managing huge amounts of data online. Back then, I thought the main idea was to create websites that were so large and had so much content that no matter what a user was searching for (in my field), chances are, the topic was covered to some extent in one of my sites and I assumed it would rank high in the SERPS for those keywords. To my surprise, publishing large amounts of data did not equal large amounts of traffic. It was as if the search engines visited the site, crawled it, indexed it, and stored all the data away. Where was my traffic?
It was then that I realized that in order to be successful online, a website not only must have tons and tons of unique content, but it must keep the content fresh and be somewhat optimized for the keyword phrases that it is targeting. I also discovered that no matter how resourceful your content is, and no matter how optimized your page for that content is, without the right kind of back links, your content is at the mercy of the search engines.
Once I finally had the “total formula” for online marketing success, I decided to put it to the test on other people’s websites.
